No doubt this will be reported and commented on at length in various forums around the internet, and there will no doubt be many detractors who might think this is a step backwards. Personally, I’ve always like BMW’s 4-bangers, and I can tell you from experience that my M44 powered 318ti does a solid 30mpg combined, and can readily hit the 33-34mpg mark on a freeway outing. Not bad for a ‘97 beater that hauls a dog, gear and two people in comfort!
