BMW to offer “Edition” M3 versions later this year

The folks over at autoblog.com cottoned me on to the fact that BMW plans to offer some sauced up versions of the already awesome new M3 later in ‘09. From the sounds of it the bulk of the package will be focused on limited-edition appearance, rather than performance.

Based on the M3 Coupe, four colors will be offered. Three of these are non-metallics: Alpine White, Black, and Dakar Yellow (for the hardcore fans).Monte Carlo Blue is the one metallic option. Blacked out kidney and hood grilles, a dark chrome coated exhaust and dual arm mirrors with body color base complete the package. No aerodynamics or spoiler packages are included.

On the inside, the interior options are limited, but are all well coordinated with the buyer’s choice of exterior paint. Alpine and Black cars are offered with white armrests and console, with white stitching on the Black Novillo leather seats. Yellow and blue cars will have color-matched interior cues as well. A numbered plaque for each of the cars rounds things out, and is a nice touch (ahhh… remember the Cecotto and Ravaglia versions of the E30 M3?!)

Wheels will be 19-inch; double spoke forged light-alloy M rims in black or in the ‘regular’ color, and the Alpine, Monte Carlo Blue and Black cars have the option of choosing a white contrasting color with polished spokes. I reserve judgment on that last option, but from the sound of it I’m not instantly drawn… does anyone have examples or pics, even if they’re not on the M3? Either way, the Dakar Yellowowners will not have to face a wide choice of rims, black or original flavor it is! Some slight suspension alterations result in a 10mm drop,rounding out the perfomance massage from Bavaria.

Kicking off sales in July, these Special models will only be available for six months.
